How has “America’s favorite pastime” evolved, and what does its history reveal about players, teams, and communities across the country? From displaying remarkable historic items from the Library of Congress collections to making bold design interventions in the gallery space—including building and installing a section of a stadium—we worked to encourage exploration of and personal reflections on the history of this beloved sport. The MLB All-Star Game will be hosted in Washington, D.C., this summer and the Library of Congress has a free baseball exhibition to mark the occasion. With its extensive archive of photos, newspaper clips, letters, film reels, movies and an immense collection of baseball cards, baseball’s story from sandlot to the pros will come alive.”
