Tablescapes: Designs for Dining

PureAndApplied_CH_Tablescapes_1577_2054

Pure+Applied designed the Tablescapes exhibition to reveal three distinct dining “moments.” The first gallery displayed a futuristic outlook on dining by 2017 National Design Award-winners Joe Doucet and Mary Ping. Taking inspiration from Joe Doucet’s tactile tableware, Pure+Applied created a circular phyllotactic design that would be a visual leitmotif in each of the three galleries. The second gallery featured a grand, early-19th-century French surtout de table that became the centerpiece of the room. The third gallery’s “moment” was represented by an asymmetric installation of Depression-era table linens. These linens were designed by American textile designer Marguerita Mergentime, who blended casual dining with bold colors, typography, and a fascination with American culture and history to create her festive designs.
