Weeksville Transforming Community: In Pursuit of Freedom

Pure+Applied worked with Matter Practice on this Weeksville Heritage Center exhibition (the second of the In Pursuit of Freedom exhibitions). The collection-based exhibition—housed in one of the preserved Hunterfly Road Houses—explored the origins of one of the first free Black communities in the country. The exhibition traced the history of the community through the people that founded it; those who had ties to it; and those who helped preserve and restore it in the 1970s and ’80s. Pure+Applied designed the exhibition graphics and adapted the original In Pursuit of Freedom identity to work in this venue. The graphics and materials for the exhibition were chosen to complement the preserved Hunterfly Road home.
